In addition to flute, sheng (mouth organ), xiao (vertical flute) and zhuban (xylophone), bamboo instruments come in lots of other forms. In this delightful and "ear-opening" experience, the Beijing Green Bamboo Orchestra shows you the wonderful music that such a collection of strings, wind and percussion makes. As a "green" ensemble, they have even designed some of the instruments themselves!
Focusing on environmental protection, the musicians will perform various international folk and children's songs with "the sounds of nature", conjuring up a serene scene for listeners, as if performing within the depths of a forest.
The concert also showcases a variety of innovative bamboo instruments such as the traditional dan bau (single-stringed zither) and the dazzling bamboo charcoal xylophone, made through being heated to a high temperature. Even bamboo steamers and bowls are played. How about that for inspiring creativity?
