The story begins on the day when Cheburashka is found by a fruit vendor in a crate of oranges. Rejected by the Moscow zoo because of his unknown species, he is befriended by a kind crocodile Gena. Cheburashka and Gena become inseparable friends and they go on a vacation together. On the way, they meet the capricious old lady Shapoklyak.
